Becca, I enjoyed reading your narrative. You have an excellent writing style.
I suggest breaking up the large block of type into several smaller ones, separated by spaces, to make the narrative more inviting and easier to read. Consider that newspapers do it that way.
Also, consider that a comma after a quote goes inside the quote, “like this,” instead of outside the quote, “like this”, though many new writers do it that way.
